Dorothy Dean Cox, 94, of Comanche, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016. She was born to the late, Jessie Lee and Jessie Belle Emert Allen on June 29, 1922 in Miles, Texas. She married William Harvey Cox on August 16, 1940 in San Angelo. He preceded her in death in 1989. Dorothy was no stranger to working hard, having grown up in the cotton fields along with her 7 sisters and brother. Dorothy Dean Cox, 94, of Comanche, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016. She was born to the late, Jessie Lee and Jessie Belle Emert Allen on June 29, 1922 in Miles, Texas. She married William Harvey Cox on August 16, 1940 in San Angelo. He preceded her in death in 1989. Dorothy was no stranger to working hard, having grown up in the cotton fields along with her 7 sisters and brother. Her work ethic was as strong willed as she was, as she did not officially stop working until the age of 88. Dorothy had a great love of family. She was a tough competitor playing marbles board game as well. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Dorothy will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, James Perry Cox and William Jimmy Cox; and sisters, Opal Jones, Betty Clifton, Billie Reed, and Gladys Stugill.
Survivors include her son, Larry Cox; daughter, Nancy Holland and her husband, Weldon; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; brother, Jess Allen, Jr.; sisters, Shirley Bruton, Ruby Faust, and Wanda Ables; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Miles Cemetery with Perry Cox, Jerrod Holland, Will Pettit, Jason Pettit, Lonnie Allen and Johnny Allen serving as pallbearers.
